Fiorentina stunned visiting AS Roma and their fans with a 4:1 trashing that saw a double by Italy forward Alberto Gilardino. Gilardino now has 150.22 points and has joined the Top 23 of the Seria A.
Juan Vargas opened the score for Fiorentina 7 minutes into the game, prompting Roma to head forward in search for an equalizer. Injury-plagued Roma could not sustain Fiorentina’s pounding and they began coming apart at the seams in the second half; Gilardino first headed in the second for Fiorentina, before grabbing his second of the night after poor defending by Roma. Gilardino earned more than 30 rating points in the game.
Massino Gobbi put the final touch to the rout with the fourth for Fiorentina at the 73rd minute. Brazilian international Julio Batista pulled just one back for Roma, who by then had been reduced to ten men after Midfielder David Pizarro had been sent off.
