Marseille’s left-back and Nigeria international Taye Taiwo has grabbed the lead in our FTBL rating of best defenders of the French Ligue 1 from Bordeaux’s Senegalese defender Souleymane Diawara in addition to that of African players.
Taiwo earned 7.45 rating points in Marseille’s 2:0 win away at Nice to boost his overall rating to 104.89 points. Diawara, in contrast, lost 3.64 rating points and now has just 103.58 points over all.
This is the first time the Nigerian is in the lead in our FTBL rating of defenders in the Ligue 1. He entered the Top 23 on March 1 and has not exited since. Taiwo first took the lead in our rating of African defenders on March 15.
