Spanish La Ligue: Villa's Sisyphean Labor

Valencia will try hard to secure a win and a Champions League berth for next season when they travel to Villarreal on Saturday, but their number one weapon, striker David Villa, even if he scores, has practically no chance of avoiding a drop in the ratings.

Villa has been crossing the desert lately, and there is nothing to suggest that the coming game will change the course of things: he will have a plank of 35 rating points to beat. He set the plank in the 2:1 win against Betis in which he had a double. Villa currently has a little less than 165 points over all and runs the risk of exiting the FTBL rating of best forwards of La Liga.

Even a win will not guarantee a Champions League berth for Valencia, since Atletico Madrid have a better chance. Meanwhile, only a double can help Villa earn a bonus, provided, that is, Valencia win.
