It is worth noting that the leaders in each category are from different clubs: Bordeaux’s Alou Diarra leads among midfielders, Rennes’ Petter Hansson leads among defenders, while Marseilles’ Steve Mandanda is the best goalkeeper.
Bordeaux’s Argentine forward Fernando Cavenaghi is the best foreign player, ranking 3rd on the Top 23 for the Ligue1. Another three South American players are on the Top 23, as well as three African players. The only non-French European in the Ligue is Bordeaux’s Hansson. The combined rating of the Top 23 players of the Ligue 1 amounts to 2,235.12 points, the lowest in the top five European leagues.
