Brazil’s laborious win over gritty South Africa in the Confederations Cup semi-final has allowed two of the Selecao’s big guns, Inter Milan’s right-back Maicon and Bayern Munich’s central defender Lucio (pictured in a yellow jersey), to return in the FTBL Top 23 of defenders, while another star, Barcelona’s Dani Alves, remains out of the elite group despite having scored the winning goal.
Lucio and Maicon earned 6.76 rating points each in the game to boost their tallies to 124.07 and 123.69 points, respectively. Dani Alves, despite scoring the winning goal from a free kick, earned just 5.17 rating points to push his tally to 122.84 points, just a sliver from a spot in the Top 23.
Lucio is in 5th place in the rating, and he will have a plank of 9 rating points to beat in the final against the U.S. Maicon, who ranks 6th, will need to pick up just a single rating point to earn a bonus. Meanwhile, Dani Alves will have to beat a plank of just 1 rating point, and playtime in the final would probably land him that coveted spot in the elite group of defenders.
