German Bundesliga title holders Wolfsburg are reportedly close to signing Newcastle United’s Nigerian international Obefemi Martins (pictured). If the deal is completed, Martin, who has an FTBL rating of just 51.81 points, will play second fiddle to Wolfsburg’s prolific strikers Edin Dzeko and Grafite.
Bosnian international Dzeko and Brazilian Grafite were without question the two main sensations of last season in the Bundesliga. While the Brazilian ended as the top scorer, Dzeko completed the season in 2nd place in the FTBL world ranking of forwards with 253.23 points, behind leader Diego Forlan of Altletico Madrid (267.15 points). Grafite also led for a long time in our ranking of Brazilian strikers with 179.7 points.
It is clear Martins will not find it easy to secure a spot in the first team as long as Wolfburg’s two marquee forwards are in the team and continue to show such form. But in the event that one the strikers is sold to one of the European super clubs currently on the hunt for pure strike power, Martins could suddenly find the doors wide open for him.
