The French narrowly avoided embarrassment when they snatched just a lame 1:0 win over the Faeroe Islands in a World Cup 2010 qualifier yesterday thanks to a goal by Toulouse FC forward Andre-Pierre Gignac (pictured in a blue Jersey).
Gignac grabbed the winner in the 39th minute as he found the net after receiving the ball in the penalty box and fooling a coterie of defenders with a 360-degree spin. He earned 19.89 points for his efforts to boost his overall FTBL rating to 136.90 points.
The 24-year-old is now in 28th position in the FTBL world ranking of strikers and hot on the heels of number-two-placed Karim Benzema of Real Madrid in our ranking of French forwards. Benzema has a tally of 148.67 points at the moment and sat out the game.
