Chelsea will launch their Premier League campaign this season by hosting Hull City, with Frank Lampard at the helm of the FTBL world ranking of midfielders with an overall rating of 214.19 points.
Lampard will have a plank of 17 rating points to beat in the game, a plank he set in the 4:1 win over Arsenal last season. His closest rival in the ranking is Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard with a tally of 181.04 points, but Gerrard faces a more daunting plank of 27 rating points to beat.
It is safe to assume Lampard will retain the top spot in our ranking after the first round of the new season, as Gerrard will need a hat-trick (while Chelsea will have to lose) if he is to overtake Lampard in this first round.
