Spain international Cesc Fàbregas (pictured in front) was instrumental as the Gunners trashed host Everton 6:1 in their season opener yesterday: he contributed two excellent goals to vault into the top three midfielders of the Premier League on the FTBL chart.
The Spaniard grabbed his first in the 48th minute after meeting a pitch-length pass inside the box and beating Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard. His second came at the 69th after carrying the ball from his own half of the field without any real challenge before driving home a long-range shot.
The effort earned the skipper a whopping 26.87 rating points to take his overall FTBL rating to 146.31 points, which puts him in 7th place in the FTBL world ranking of midfielders.
In the Premier League Fàbregas now trails only Chelsea’s Frank Lampard (211.89 points) and Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard (181.04 points) in the FTBL ranking of midfielders.
Among Spanish midfielders, Fàbregas trails only Barcelona’s Xavi (153.11 points).
