Manchester United's Wayne Rooney (pictured) retained his top spot in the FTBL ranking of English Premier League strikers with a fine performance capped with a goal against newly promoted Birmingham City in their season opener yesterday at Old Trafford.
The England international was first on the rebound after his own header bounced off the bar in the 34th minute to give the Red Devils a deserved win. He earned 8.2 rating points for his effort to boost his overall FTBL rating to 191.55 points. Rooney is now 5th in the FTBL world ranking of strikers and 1st in our ranking of English and Premier League strikers.
Chelsea’s Cote d’Ivoire international Didier Drogba is now in second place among strikers in England’s top league with 175.09 points over all, while Fernando Torres and Dirk Kuyt lost an opportunity to improve their numbers as Liverpool fell to Tottenham Hotspur 1:2.
Kuyt lost 12.42 rating points to see his overall rating shrink to 169.98 points: he is now 3rd in our ranking of strikers in the Premier League. Torres, on the other hand, lost a whopping 40.37 rating points to see his overall rating collapse to 139.11 points.
