Bosnian international Edin Dzeko looks poised to overtake Atlético Madrid’s Uruguayan striker Diego Forlán as the world’s top player in the FTBL Ranking as defending champions Wolfsburg host Hamburg tonight. Despite a high plank of 33.20 rating points to beat in the game, the Bosnian, who is known for his prolific goal-scoring, appears almost certain to dethrone Forlán, who has topped our ranking for the past 4 months.
To close the gap between himself and Forlan, Dzeko will need to score a least two goals, and better still three. If last season is any guide, the plank appears more than within Dzeko’s reach.
For example, the Bosnian picked up 36.60 rating points in last season's 5:1 drubbing of Werder Bremen. He earned 42.70 rating points in another resounding win over 1899 Hoffenheim (4:0), and against Bayern Munich he earned more than 38 rating points as the Bavarians went down 5:1. Dzeko currently has an overall FTBL rating of 242.64 points, against Forlán’s 249.04 points.
