Liverpool’s Argentine international Javier Mascherano is sitting at the edge of the top tier of the FTBL ranking of Premier League midfielders, with the game against Aston Villa tonight set to decide whether he remains in the group or drops out.
With an overall FTBL tally of 11.15 points at the moment, Mascherano will have a relatively easy plank of 8.23 rating points to beat. A victory will earn the Argentine a nice bonus. So far in the Championship, Liverpool have had a loss (against Tottenham Hotspur) and a win (over Stoke City). Mascherano lost 2.5 rating points in the first game, while he earned 19 in the 4:0 subsequent drubbing of Stoke City.
A poor performance will send Mascherano out of the top echelon of Premier League midfielders: Tottenham’s Croatian Luka Modric (108.79 points) could well take his place. A good performance, on the other hand, could open the door to the 3rd spot in a ranking that is currently extremely crowded.
