Bayer 04 Leverkusen’s former Liverpool defender Sami Hyypiä (pictured in a red jersey) has broken into the top tier of the FTBL Top 23 of veteran players (over 35 years) with fine performances in his first three appearances in the German Bundesliga.
Despite a 2:2 draw in the first game away at FSV Mainz 05, Bayer’s defense, under the commanding leadership of the Finnish veteran, conceded no goals in the 1:0 win over 1899 Hoffenheim and the following 5:0 trashing of SC Freiburg.
Hyypiä used the three games to boost his FTBL rating to 68.46 points and move up to 111th place in the FTBL World Ranking of defenders. He remains the undisputable leader in our ranking of Finnish defenders and, in addition, has now captured the 4th spot in the FTBL World Ranking of veteran defenders.
