Goalkeepers: Can Werder’s Wiese Squeeze Inter’s Julio Cesar out of Top 3?

Werder Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese’s performance in his side’s 2:0 home win over 1899 Hoffenheim earned him enough rating points to bring him a sliver shy of the 3rd spot in the top 3 of the FTBL world ranking of goalkeepers.

But, as we have had ample time to notice, that elite group seldom admits newcomers: the current top 3 is made up of Barcelona’s Víctor Valdés (122.34 points), Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas (120.48 points), and Internazionale’s Júlio César (111.48 points).

Wiese boosted his overall rating to 100.52 rating points with the win over Hoffenheim and is well in a position to compete for the 3rd spot with César, even though he remains for the moment in 8th position in the world ranking. In our rankings of German and Bundesliga keepers, Wiese is now at the top.

But to make that final leap to the 3rd spot in the world ranking and push out César, the Germany international will have to clear a bar of approximately 20 rating points in his next game. To do that, Bremen will first have to win, and Wiese avoid conceding goals.
