Fenerbahçe SK’s Uruguay skipper Diego Lugano (pictured in the foreground), the best defender in Turkey’s top league at the moment in the FTBL rankings, earned victory for Uruguay by scoring the only goal in game 1 of the World Cup playoff against Costa Rica (1:0).
Lugano’s performance earned him a solid 22.4 rating points in the FTBL system to take his tally to 76.6 point. He has climbed past Villarreal’s Diego Godín (75.59 points) and Cagliari’s Diego Lopez (69.76 points), who until then were No 1 and 2, respectively, in our ranking of Uruguayan defenders.
In the Turkish top league, Lugano is followed in the ranking of defenders by Galatasaray’s Balta Hakan (57.64 points) and Çetin Servet (55.86 points).
