Bayern Munich’s goalkeeper Hans-Jorg Butt was instrumental in the Germans’ stunning performance against Juventus yesterday in the Champions League; his set-piece goal leveled the game, going a long way in helping put Bayern on the path to the unbelievable 4:1 away win, and it did plenty of good to his FTBL score.
Butt earned an eye-popping 17.25 rating points in the FTBL system, a dramatic take for a goalkeeper, and broke into the top tier of our ranking of German players, in 2nd place. He now trails leader Roman Weidenfeller of Borussia Dortmund by less than a rating point.
Butt is likely to capture the lead this coming Saturday, when Bayern take on Bochum in Bundesliga action with him facing a plank of just 6 rating points to beat. A win for Bayern will guarantee Butt the top spot in the ranking. In the meantime, rival Weidenfeller will be facing a tougher plank of 14.6 rating points to beat against Wolfsburg on Sunday. He will avoid a loss in points only if he keeps his slate clean.
