After Juventus’ appalling 4:1 loss to Bayern Munich in Turin in the Champions League last Tuesday, Gianluigi Buffon lost the top spot in the FTBL ranking of Italian goalkeepers to Cagliari’s Federico Marchetti.
Yet despite his lead of 10.56 points over Buffon at the moment, Marchetti will still have a hard time maintaining himself at the top. Juventus’ losses to Bordeaux, Cagliari, and Bayern have made sure Buffon will face a very low combined plank to beat in his next 5 games, at just 18.6 rating points. In the meantime, Marchetti will face a combined plank of 51.9 rating points.
Nonetheless, Marchetti is more likely than not continue to enjoy his newfound position until at least after the weekend: he will face a plank of 13.1 rating points to beat, while Buffon faces 14.6 rating points. Therefore, a change at the top of the ranking would happen this coming weekend only if Cagliari lose at home to Napoli, while Juventus win over Bari without conceding a single goal.
