Just as we predicted, Bayern Munich goalkeeper Hans-Jorg Butt took the lead in the FTBL ranking of German goalkeepers after yesterday’s round of matches in the Bundesliga. Yet Butt can still lose that leadership to rival Frank Rost (pictured) of Hamburg as early as next weekend.
And here is why that can happen: after Hamburg trashed Nurnberg 4:0 yesterday at home, Rost reduced the gap with Butt in the ranking by just 4.01 points. In the next game, both players will face diametrically opposite tasks: Butt will have to avoid conceding a goal and “defend” 145.6 rating points in our system, while Rost needs to clear a bar of jut 1 point.
Therefore, a goalless draw at home on December 20 against Werder Bremen will be enough for Rost to take the lead, while even a “clean” victory will not save Butt in that case, even though such a victory is entirely possible; after all the Bavarians will be playing bottom-placed Hertha Berlin.
