The leaders of German powerhouse Bayern Munich scored the biggest gains in the FTBL rankings this past week. Mario Gómez rose to 2nd place in the world ranking of strikers, while Bastian Schweinsteiger (left) captured the 3rd spot in the world ranking of midfielders. In addition, Croatian Ivica Olic rose to the top tier of the world ranking of forwards, while Dutch international Mark van Bommel (center), as we have reported, also joined the top tier of the world ranking of midfielders.
Gómez extended his goal-scoring run to 4 games and picked up approximately 20 rating points in the FTBL system after the 5:1 win over Bochum. He is now just a sliver from the 200-point mark. He now trails only Valencia’s David Villa, who has a score of 218 points.
In the meantime, Schweinsteiger added 11.57 rating points against Bochum and now has 154.12 points. Only Barcelona’s Lionel Messi (204.26 points) and Xavi (185.42 points) have higher scores.
There are now 5 Bayern Munich players in the FTBL World Top 23, our list of the world’s top 23 players, including Philipp Lahm. Only Spanish giants Barcelona have more players (8 overall) in the World Top 23. But no new Catalan player joined the elite list last week.
