Fiorentina striker and Italy international Alberto Gilardino took advantage of his partners' efforts in the 2:1 win over No. 10 Bari yesterday to claim the lead in the FTBL ranking of forwards in the Italian top league.
The game earned Gilardino 15 rating points in our system and knocked out of his Last Five the loss to Inter Milan, in which he picked up just a single point. With 191.27 points now, Gilardino has edged past Inter Milan’s Cameroonian star Samuel Eto’o to claim the No.1 spot among forwards.
In their next game at home against struggling Bologna, Gilardino will have a good opportunity to add to his tally. Yet his leadership will suffer if he fails to score once again; after all, his plank to beat in the subsequent game will be a more daunting 21 rating points. To beat that plank, he will need more than just an overall victory for Fiorentina.
