Gunners ‘tripping’ despite Arshavin’s inspired game

Arsenal will play West Bromwich in coming Premier League action. Could Arshavin’s new team, which has been going through a miserable spell lately, finally score a win?

The last win for the Gunners was a 3-1 against Hull City back in January. Coach Arsene Wenger’s side scored for the last time in the game against Everton that followed. The encounter ended in a 1-1 draw. Since then, the Gunners have line up four goalless draws.

Andrei Arshavin was finally allowed into the pitch in the last two games against Sunderland and Fullham. He attacked, displayed some of his dazzling talent, and created opportunities for his teammates. He was even voted MVP in the two games. But he failed to accomplish the most important: his team failed to score a single goal. Arshavin therefore remains a kind of unlucky talisman for the Gunners.

It is unsurprising that Arshavin’s rating after the move to Arsenal has not appreciated considerably. It currently stands at 82.62 points. Arshavin will have to earn at least 11.03 points in the coming game. It will no longer be enough for him to perform at the level he did in the last two games. At a minimum, Arsenal will have to win and Arshavin score at least a goal.

Arsenal currently rank 5th in the Premier League, falling behind the leaders with every game. They follow behind Aston Villa, who are 6 points ahead.
