Barcelona -Lyon - 5:2. Favorites justify advances

The crowd enjoyed a goal fest in the second leg of the Champions League game at the Nou Camp. Barcelona displayed the kind of game expected of favorites in the competition, with a decisive victory that takes them into the ¼ finals.

The Catalans removed all doubts as to the outcome of the game as early as in the first half: by its end, Lyon had already conceded 4 goals. First came Thierry Henry (pictured on the right) to create trouble for the French: he collected a ball from a Rafael Marquez pass that flew over the entire Lyon defense, as they failed in their attempt to engineer an outside position, and found himself one-on-one with Lyon goalie Hugo Lloris. He beat him easily. A mere two minutes later, Henry was on target again, after a pass from Xavi, sending the ball rolling into the near corner. The French international’s rating after the game shot up by 29.90 points, to 193.67.

Argentine wonder Lionel Messi added one at the 40th minute, when he slalomed through the Lyon defense, using Samuel Eto’o for a one-two before sending the ball rolling into the far corner. All was set in the game after that goal, and frustrated Lyon conceded a fourth at the 43rd, when Cameroonian international Eto’o found the net with a beautiful shot from the exterior of the right foot.

Lyon pulled one back in the dying minutes of the first half through jean Makoun, who headed the ball in after a  corner kick. Brazilian Juninho Pernambucano made the score 4-2 right after the beginning of the second half. Despite his goal, Juninho lost 24.45 rating points as a result of the game, and he now has the worst rating among the 23 best Brazilian football players, with 81.86 points.

Lyon lost all hope when French star Karim Benzema wasted an opportunity to score the third goal. The “If you don’t score, you get scored” principle was confirmed by Keita, who put a stop to Lyon’s misery with the fifth goal. Barcelona confidently advances, while Lyon exits the Champions League.
