Joan Capdevilla’s lead in the rating of best world defenders lasted just 24 hours: from the end of the Manchester United—Juventus encounter to that of the Atletico Madrid—Villareal game.
Nemanja Vidic lost his lead after the game against Liverpool. The 1:4 defeat, coupled with the sending-off of Vidic himself, sank the Serb international’s rating: he had a negative rating of -5.66, and the match against Fulham, which United won 3:0, was removed from his Last Five. Vidic earned 14.60 rating points in that game. But in the switch to the category of ‘old’ matches, the rating, according to the rules, transformed into 1.46 points (10% of the rating in the game). Vidic, therefore, lost approximately 20 points.
Capdevilla grabbed the lead, but his side Villareal conceded 3 goals in the game against Atletico Madrid, which resulted in the Catalan slipping to 5th place.
The new leader amongst defenders is Liverpool’s Jamie Carragher (pictured), who won the prize in face-to-face opposition with Vidic. Carragher has 125.68 points and leads the Serb by less than a point. Chelsea’s Jose Bosingwa and John Terry follow close behind. The list is so crowded at the top that the situation could radically change as early as after the next games involving the leaders.
