Serie A round-up

AC Milan extended their lead at the Serie A summit to six points on Sunday, but were held on home soil in an eight-goal thriller.

Elsewhere, second-placed Lazio came unstuck while Inter Milan made it two wins in two under new boss Leonardo.

No question that the game of the day came at Giuseppe Meazza, where leaders AC Milan played out a 4-4 draw with inconsistent Udinese.

Antonio Di Natele had the visitors in front after 35 minutes, but Alexandre Pato restored parity on the stroke of half-time.

In an action-packed second half Alex Sanchez restored Udinese's lead on 53 minutes, before Di Natale bagged his second of the game just past the hour mark.

Milan then displayed commendable battling spirit to haul themselves back into the game, with an own goal from Mehdi Benatia (78) and another from Brazilian ace Pato (82) levelling things up once more.

Remarkably, the scoring was not over yet, with German Denis edging Udinese back in front a minute from time, only to see Zlatan Ibrahimovic grab the most dramatic of stoppage-time equalisers.

Shock

Lazio missed the chance to close the gap on Milan after going down 2-1 to struggling Lecce at Stadio Olimpico.

In a game which pitched second from top against second from bottom, it was the visitors who broke the deadlock through Jeda on 39 minutes.

Lazio drew level two minutes into the second half through Stefano Mauri, but Carlos Grossmuller pounced on 71 minutes to help secure a shock success for Lecce.

Inter Milan remain some way off the pace but ensured that they preserved their 100 per cent record under Leonardo with a 2-1 win over Catania.

The Nerazzurri fell behind 19 minutes from time when Alejandro Gomez found the target, but a late brace from Esteban Cambiasso (75 & 79) saw Inter turn the tie on its head.

Sampdoria halted their recent wobble with a 2-1 victory over high-flying Roma.

Mirko Vucinic had Claudio Ranieri's side ahead after 16 minutes, but a penalty from Nicola Pozzi (58) and a late effort from Stefano Guberti (84) saw Samp take the spoils.

A lively encounter also saw three sending offs, with Stefano Lucchini and Daniele Gastaldello seeing red for the hosts and Julio Sergio dismissed for Roma.

Collapse

Fiorentina put some distance between themselves and the drop zone with a 3-2 win over lowly Brescia.

The visitors led 2-0 at half-time, courtesy of goals from Alessandro Diamanti (30) and Nicolas Cordova (45), but collapsed after the interval.

In the space of 15 second half minutes, Alberto Gilardino (72), Mario Alberto Santana (86) and Adem Ljajic (87) hauled the Viola out of a hole and saw them climb back towards the relatively safety of mid-table.

Bologna secured a first win in four outings as they prevailed 2-0 on the road at rock-bottom Bari.

Albin Ekdal (38) and Marco Di Vaio (69) struck either side of the interval to wrap up the points.

Cagliari have been slipping of late, but countered that slump with a 2-1 win away at Parma.

A double from Robert Acquafresca (21 & 30) did the damage, ensuring a 53rd minute effort from Sebastian Giovinco was nothing more than a consolation.

Cesena and Genoa drew a blank at Dino Manuzzi, while Chievo and Palermo also played out a goalless draw.
