Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor (pictured) has again come to his team’s rescue. His goal helped the Gunners to avoid defeat in the away leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Villareal. He has clearly missed scoring during his long lay-off with injury – he already has four goals to his credit in the three matches since his return.
Adebayor has gained over 60 points in those games. And if he continues to score important goals, he has every chance of breaking into the world’s Top 23 – he needs less than 10 points in the next two matches to do. He currently has 163.45 points.
Things are not getting any easier for Arsenal, however, with one misfortune being succeeded by another. Having just welcomed back Adebayor, they have now lost their No.1 goalkeeper Almunia and defender William Gallas to injuries.
By the time they were substituted, Arsenal had already conceded the goal scored by Marcos Senna, which reduced the ratings of both players. Gallas lost over 10 points as a result of this match, and Almunia 7.66 points. This was doubly frustrating for Gallas, who had a good chance of topping the ratings of the world’s best defenders, but he has now dropped to the middle of the list with 125.27 points. Almunia’s rating is 97.89 points, which is only sufficient to put him among the best players in the English Premiership.
