Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat by Chelsea was a big blow to the ratings of their leading players. Jose Reina, who had topped the goalkeepers’ list for a long time, lost 16.44 points as a result of the game and has dropped out of the world’s Top 23 altogether, yielding his place to fellow Spaniard Iker Casillas (rating – 142.61 points). Reina now has 128.85 to his credit.
Jamie Carragher, who only yesterday led the defenders’ list, lost the same number of points. His rating has now fallen to 121.24 points, and he has also dropped out of the list of the world’s best players.
The greatest loss, however, was sustained by Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard – almost 30 points. Gerrard was unable to reach the target of 29.27 points that he had set himself in the match against Real Madrid on 10 March, in which he scored two goals. Gerrard now has 189.17 points.
Chelsea’s players, on the other hand, earned a great deal from their victory. Frank Lampard and John Terry had the greatest success: Terry now leads the list of best defenders in England with 129.96 points and has moved into the list of the world’s Top 23 players, while Lampard consolidated his place in that list – he gained 17.70 points in this match for a total of 160.63.
