A striker, comparatively short – 169 centimeters – but good at dodging opponents and getting ahead of them, Jermain Defoe has always been self-confident, and at school he was assuring everyone that he would end up playing in the England national team. He was telling the truth – in March 2004, Defoe debuted as a member of the England squad in a match against Sweden. His relatively short stature is a source of jokes for his partners. Jamie Redknapp and Robbie Keane, for instance, tried to dissuade Defoe from buying a huge Range Rover because, they said, Danny wouldn't be able to see the road from behind the wheel.
