Filippo Inzaghi

One of the world's best forwards and a 2006 World Cup Winner, Filippo Inzaghi, who has been awarded one an Italian Orders of Merit, is one of the top ten strikers in the history of the Squadra Azzurra, having scored 25 goals in 57 matches. He is only second to the Spaniard Raul for the number of goals scored in European Cups. His career nearly came to an abrupt and tragic end in December 2004 – he and his family were in the Maldives when the Islands were hit by a series of destructive tsunamis. Inzaghi survived because the calamity broke out in daytime – he and others who had stayed at the hotel climbed onto the roof of the building, from where they were picked up by a rescue party.
