A tall center forward, Mario Gomez often scores goals but even more often shoots wide when in a very favorable position. He tries to make up for his technical shortcomings with his physical strength, but this is clearly not enough. As a superstition, he never sings the national anthem before matches in which he plays for the Germany national team – the first time he wore the jersey of the German national team he was so jumpy he forgot the lyrics. He did well in that game, though, and so made up his mind to avoid singing the anthem in the future.
